DAZN Enters First LatAm Market

Continuing its rapid international expansion, the sports-oriented OTT service will now rollout in Brazil during March 2019 with an initial offering that includes exclusive rights to the Copa Sudamericana for the next four seasons.

After announcing its upcoming arrival in Spain with a bulky content offering earlier this month, sports-oriented OTT platform DAZN will continue its rapid international expansion by tackling its first Latin American market: Brazil.

The service is expected to rollout in March 2019 offering affordable and flexible access to some of the best sport in the world to viewers in Brazil, who will be able to access events live and on demand.

The initial offering includes the next four seasons on the Copa Sudamericana thanks to a partnership with the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) for exclusive rights to stream the matches.

"DAZN’s fans first approach of offering flexible and affordable access to the world’s biggest sports is a perfect fit for us and we look forward to working with them over the next few seasons," said Conmebol president, Alejandro Dominguez in regards to the deal, which is the first between the service and a FIFA continental governing body.

DAZN will also give viewers access to Italy’s Serie A and France’s Ligue 1 with three more major rights expected to be announced soon.

And prior to its launch, the company is expected to broadcast selected Serie A TIM and Ligue 1 matches for free on its Facebook and YouTube pages. Coverage will start on December 7 and the idea is that football fans in Brazil can watch their favorite Brazilian players playing in Europe.

"Football is a way of life in Brazil and so launching there with such significant rights is a huge moment for DAZN, cementing us as the fastest growing sports broadcaster in the world," mentioned Simon Denyer, chief executive of DAZN Group.

After an initial launch in Japan the streamer has now expanded its footprint to reach nine countries and four continents in just two years, "and that is only the beginning," promises Denyer.

Other countries where the service is available include Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Canada, Italy and the US.
