Rojadirecta Loses its Fight

GolT and Mediaproducción won their lawsuit against the pirate website, which must now "immediately cease" its activity as sentenced by a Jury in La Coruña.

Justice ruled in favor of the fight against piracy in Spain. Pirate website Rojadirecta was sentenced to "immediately cease" its activity by the Commercial Court Number 2 of La Coruña.

The website -which offers links to live sports broadcasts- is in violation of intellectual property rights, and must now pay GolT and Mediaproducción for the damages caused.

The sentence forces Rojadirecta to stop providing links to sport events offered by the two companies. In addition, the sentence applies to Rojadirecta.com and "any other web page that the defendants could use in the same terms, or that redirects to Rojadirecta."

The sentence, however, is not final yet, as it leaves the possibility of an appeal to the Provincial Court of La Coruña. The possible compensation will be determined in a later process.

According to the information that's been published at the moment, the website's administrator reportedly earned more than 11 million euros.
