Movistar delves into the world of eSports

Movistar and the Electronic Sports League announced a deal to finance eSports initiatives, such as a dedicated channel, their own players and live broadcasts.

At an event held in the Matadero de Madrid in Spain, Movistar and the Electronic Sports League (ESL) announced a strategic alliance to invest in the world of electronic sports.

Through the deal, the companies will invest in three different business lines: professional and amateur competitions in Spain, a new channel devoted to eSports in the Movistar+ platform, and even their own players to be called Movistar Riders.

As reported by sports site Palco 23, the content will be produced in Spanish and offered through Movistar's pay TV platform, which will feature the new dial Movistar esports, to offer the 13 main ESL competitions in 2017.

Movistar Deportes' networks will also offer special programming and live broadcasts of the international competitions.

As far as the Movistar Riders go, the players will be divided in up to five teams, who will compete in Overwatch, Hearthstone, Counter Strike:Global Offensive, Call Of Duty and League Of Legends. The club will also have its own headquarters in the Movistar Gaming Center.
