Televisa and TV Azteca Left Out of the Olympics

Arturo Elías Ayub, Director of Strategic Alliances and Content at América Móvil, confirmed that the Rio 2016 Olympics won't be broadcast by Televisa or TV Azteca.

América Móvil once again shows its power over traditional TV operators in Mexico. Carlos Slim's company won't grant the broadcasting rights to the Rio 2016 Olympics to Televisa or to TV Azteca.

The news was confirmed this week by Arturo Elías Ayub, Director of Strategic Alliances and Content at América Móvil, who spoke to Ciro Gómez Leyva's radio show and said that for the first time, this year Mexicans will be able to watch the Olympics, "whenever and wherever" they want.

Thus, the Games in Rio will be offered in Mexico through ESPN, Fox Sports and public broadcasters Canal 11 and Canal 22.

In addition to Claro Sports entire platform on any connected device.

Ayub said Claro Sports will have all the sports disciplines and that "everything will be completely free" for those who choose this platform.

He also said this year's Olympics will be the biggest in history "by a good percentage" in Mexico, since it's held in South America and thus the schedule is more convenient.

"They are the first ones to be held in South America, so the hours are great and audience will be big," he said.
