Univision Deportes streamed a soccer match in 4k

Univision Deportes partnered with NeuLion, a leading company in broadcasting distribution of digital video content, and NEP, a global leader in the remote TV industry, to make history in the US with the 4k live streaming of the friendly between Mexico and Senegal.

NeuLion, Inc. , a leading technology product and service provider specializing in the broadcasting, distribution and monetization of live and on-demand digital video content to Internet-enabled devices, and NEP, a global leader in the remote television industry, partnered with Univision Deportes, the multimedia sports division of Univision Communications Inc. (UCI) that also includes UDN, the No. 1 Spanish-language sports network, to deliver a 4K live stream of the upcoming friendly match between Mexico’s National Team and Senegal that took place at Marlins Park Stadium in Miami, Florida on February 10, to Sony 4K Ultra HD TVs.

"For the last few years we have been incredible innovators in the world of soccer," says Juan Carlos Rodriguez, president of Univision Deportes, to Engadget. "We strongly believe that by being the first ones, we let [others] know that there's a serious testament and commitment from Univision into technology and the on-air experience."

The event was streamed live in 4K using the NeuLion Digital Platform and delivered over-the-top (OTT) to Sony 4K Ultra HD TVs that have integrated the NeuLion® 4K Streaming SDK for viewing at Marlins Park Stadium. The live event, produced by Univision Deportes and NEP and delivered by NeuLion, was streamed in advance of a new Univision Deportes 4K that will be made available for select 4K devices in the coming months. NEP provided a 4K mobile unit, cameras with long sports lenses in native 4K, EVS playback 4K machines, 4K VIZ graphics unit and a Sony multi-channel 4K hard drive recorder to archive the historic broadcast.

“NeuLion has worked with our partners to create the only end-to-end solution on the market for the delivery, monetization and distribution of 4K video at 60 frames per second video on the world’s most popular devices.” said Dr. Kanaan Jemili, CEO of NeuLion. “Coming on the heels of our successful 4K live streaming trial with the NBA and BT Sport, this event further demonstrates that live 4K sporting events are the wave of the very near future.”
